Miguel Berrocal, Dead at 73

Any mechanical puzzle collector knows the name Berrocal: His beautiful (if not very difficult) interlocking sculptures sit in all of our dream cabinets, but few of us can afford even one piece. The sculptor passed away at the age of 73 (see this translated obituary).

A friend of mine once got an email from someone who wanted to sell him a set of six Berrocals for half-market value. The seller just wanted to get rid of them after, I think, a loved one had passed away.

He claims they're an investment, but we keep reminding him that it's only an investment if you plan to sell. They're beautiful pieces. Someday if we have a proper display case I might seek one out.
